I have used hand saws for all my sawing as an amateur furniture maker for several decades. When I started, I bought new saws, not realizing the decline in quality of the steel as well as the finesse of the handles since the early 1900's. After much research on hand saws, much of it on this web site, I purchased this #12 Disston along with a #12 Disston rip saw. The saws were beautifully cleaned and precisely sharpened. They started easily and cut both cleanly and accurately. I am typically very careful in buying old tools and usually want to inspect them in person before buying, but I would not hesitate buying a saw from Pete Taran sight unseen based on his description and the included photograph.
