On this page you will find some very special saws. In almost every case, the saws shown are very rare and extremely collectible. In some cases only a handful of examples are know to exist. Like most tools, the makers of saws sought to bring novel (and sometimes wacky) ideas to market. Each company sought to be on the cutting edge of technology. Some ideas caught on, others didn't. Most of the saws that you see here were ideas that didn't catch on. The reasons vary--too costly, too fragile, didn't perform as intended. These do not diminish the value of these saws in the eyes of the modern collector. The more esoteric the design, the more it is sought after.
While we have no control over what happens to these saws when they leave our hands, in general they should not be used to do work. In all cases, they are sold as is, without sharpening. There is some historic value in the shape and size of the existing teeth, so we choose not to alter it. We have tried to be as explicit and detailed in the description of these saws as possible. If there is some detail that we have overlooked, please don't hesitate to ask.
