Disston 1865 era No 5 backsaw with 12" long blade has 13 ppi cross cut teeth and is 2 7/8" high, Beech reproduction handle is perfect.

This backsaw is a project that has been on the back burner for a long time. The original beech handle was broken in 3 spots and held together with screws and brads. I recreated a replacement from stable European Beech and created new hardware while at the same time preserving the original medallion.

Saws from this era are very rare, contains the famous inchworm logo which I have not seen before in the Disson and Son mark. The medallion is the earliest variety and is marked Disston and Son. Rarer still is the fact that this saw has a brass back which is very uncommon. Ultimately, this saw was too nice to put on the crunk pile, so I brought it back from the dead and it is ready for another 160 years of use.

Like all our first quality saws, this saw comes sharp, set and ready to cut.
