YS4 Plated English Brace

YS4 Plated English Brace

$120.00

Here is an exceptional example of a plated English Brace, made in Sheffield. So called because the wooden body is plated with brass plate which stiffens it and makes it more durable.

This particular model is made by Henry Brown and is stamped with an owner's mark and date of 1920. The body is of beech with contrasting rosewood pad. The spring catch is very stout and ready to grip tapered style Irwin bits for another 100 years. This brace has a 6.5 - 7" sweep a size that is favored by chairmakers.

These braces are common, but rare in this condition. They are usually found cracked, split and otherwise abused. This one is as nice as the day it was made. Ships with center point drill as shown. Hang it on the wall as decoration or put it back to work.
